Most cutting lines still rely on manual breaking tables. In some cases, partially automated solutions are already in use—for example, automatic edge breaking on the leading and trailing edges combined with X subplate breaking. However, when edge and Y breaking also need to be automated—quickly and within a limited footprint—conventional system concepts often reach their limits. In many production halls, the required installation space, especially in terms of width, is simply not available.
This is where the new BSY‑A (currently patent pending) comes in. It enables fully automatic edge and Y breaking for glass lengths of up to 6 metres—without requiring additional space in width. As a result, these processes can be integrated compactly and efficiently into both existing and new cutting lines, while maintaining consistently high edge quality.
The BSY is a modular, automatic breaking system for Y and edge breaks. At its core is a patent‑pending system concept featuring multiple breaking modules that automatically couple depending on the glass size.
For smaller glass panes up to 2 m, the system operates with one module.
From a glass length of 2 m, the second module automatically couples – enabling processing of panes up to 4 m or 6 m.
The breaking bars couple to the required length – up to four or six metres, depending on the module configuration.
Thanks to this principle, glass panes of up to 6 × 3.3 m can be processed – without a turning station, without a 90° outfeed, in a straight line and with a minimal footprint.
Another key feature: all breaking‑process‑relevant movements are carried out fully electronically via servo drives. Pneumatics are a thing of the past. This allows breaking force, dynamics and positions to be precisely adjusted on a recipe basis to the glass thickness and format.
Less space, less complexity
Automatic Y and edge breaking takes place in a straight line – without a turning station. This saves up to 20% of hall space and simplifies line design.
High performance with maximum flexibility
With cycle times of under 12 seconds, modular system lengths and a glass thickness range of 2 to 12 mm, the BSY flexibly adapts to a wide variety of production requirements.
Consistent quality in the breaking process
Two independently moving breaking bars, segmented cross transport and the fully electronic three‑point breaking concept ensure reproducible breaking results – regardless of glass thickness and format. At the same time, grinding allowances and tool costs are reduced.
The BSY can be integrated into new cutting lines as well as retrofitted into existing systems. Which option is technically most suitable depends on the existing line configuration – project‑specific planning provides clarity here.
The video clearly shows the key functions of the BSY – from the modular design and coupled breaking bars to the automatically adjustable edge breakers. The three‑point breaking concept is particularly visible, ensuring uniform and clean breaking results.
Summary
The BSY automates Y and edge breaking exactly where these processes have previously tied up space, time and personnel. With its compact, modular design, it creates new freedom in production – technically precise, flexibly integrable and consistently focused on process stability.
