Fully automated handling of heavy IG units: The New robotics and rotary Platform system

When unloading large, thermoplastically sealed insulating glass units, manual processes quickly reach their limits. For the first time, the combination of the RHV‑A620IG unloading robot and the new PDL‑A40‑1FL rotary platform enables fully continuous, interruption‑free and clean unloading, even for formats up to 4,000 × 3,300 mm (approx. 157 × 130 in / 13.1 × 10.8 ft) and weights of up to 620 kg (approx. 1,367 lb).

AUTOMATED UNLOADING OF LARGE INSULATING GLASS UNITS – HOW? 

At the end of the insulating glass line, the RHV‑A620IG robot takes over, removing the finished unit directly from the line. The system is designed to safely grip large and heavy units without deforming or contaminating them.
 

THE ROBOTICS: RHV‑A620IG
The RHV‑A620IG is one of the most powerful robots commonly used in insulating glass handling. It can lift up to 620 kg (approx. 1,367 lb) and precisely move even very large formats.
Key Highlights:
  • Pressure‑free suction process – The vacuum cups are activated only once all contact points touch the glass. This prevents the unit from being compressed.
  • Automatic deactivation of individual suction cup pairs – Unneeded vacuum cups are deactivated to prevent contamination from protruding sealing materials.
  • Full support of the bottom edge – Slippage of the rear and middle glass panes is prevented, ensuring the highest product quality.
  • Precise placement of every unit – Robotics ensure that each format is positioned accurately on the rack, offering a quality advantage over manual processes.

 

THE ROTARY PLATFORM: PDL‑A40‑1FL

Located directly beneath the transport rack is the new PDL‑A40‑1FL rotary platform, which has been designed for the first time for operation with a forklift or pallet stacker. It is permanently mounted in the floor, while the rack itself is exchanged using a forklift.

WHY THIS COMBINATION MATTERS

In practice, the greatest efficiency gains are achieved through the synchronization of both systems: the robot continues unloading without waiting times while an empty shipping rack is already in position. There are no delays caused by manual intermediate processes and no downtime of the glass line. This significantly increases both throughput and process reliability.
