Spontaneous breakages in the buffer are rare, but can have serious consequences. With the new ASM detection system, glass breakages are detected instantly, reported, and automatically cleaned up before they become an issue.
In glass production, so-called spontaneous breakage can occur due to nickel sulfide inclusions—meaning glass breakage without any external impact. This becomes particularly critical when the pane is already stored in the buffer and the breakage goes unnoticed. Because when the pane is later required for downstream processing, it is missing—potentially jeopardizing delivery deadlines or making time-consuming remakes necessary.
The new ASM system detects breakage immediately and ensures automatic cleaning.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
-
Breakage detection via light grid:
A light grid is installed in the lower section of the storage module. As soon as fragments interrupt the grid, the system is stopped and a notification is sent to the operating personnel. This ensures that breakage is not only detected during downstream processing, but immediately when it occurs.
-
Automatic cleaning:
After detection, the affected compartment is first blown out using a compressed air lance. The fragments fall to the floor beneath the storage module.
A specially developed sweeping cleaning system is then used: mounted on the module’s roller carrier, it reliably removes the fragments from the system.
- Early breakage detection via light grid
- Automatic notification to operating personnel
- Compressed air lance for clearing the affected compartment
- Sweeping cleaning system for complete removal of glass fragments
- Reduction of production downtime and remakes
AVAILABILITY
The system is already in use in initial projects. The breakage detection and cleaning system are designed as modular units and—depending on the technical configuration—can also be integrated into existing buffer systems. For systems built from 2020 onwards, retrofitting is generally straightforward. For older systems, a technical assessment is recommended.
